While your puppy will learn foundational obedience skills like sit, down, come, stay, and place, this program goes far beyond basic training. You’ll discover how to nurture a confident, well-rounded dog by addressing their physical, mental, and emotional needs.

Eligibility

Puppies must be 8 weeks to 6 months old at the start of class.

Vaccination Requirements

At least one Distemper/Parvo and Kennel Cough (Bordetella/Intratrac) vaccine.

Rabies vaccine required by 4 months (16 weeks) per NY law but not mandatory to start.

Ensure all vaccines are up to date before registering.

Class Policy

No make-up sessions for missed classes.

Maximum of 8 puppies per class, with up to 2 handlers per puppy.

This class lays the groundwork for a lifetime of good behavior and sets the stage for advanced training in Phase 2. There will be homework and time during each day that you must devote to training. Be prepared.

*Group classes are not appropriate for every dog. Dogs exhibiting high aggression towards other dogs or humans, or more anxious or fearful dogs, might not be suitable for this class. Call and speak to a trainer if you are not certain before signing up.

Items needed for Training

High-Value Treats: Bring treats your dog loves and will work hard for, ensuring effective and rewarding training sessions.

Training Collar: We recommend the Herm Sprenger prong collar, which we carry in-house for your convenience. While a Martingale, chain collar, or Starmark collars are acceptable alternatives, you’ll achieve the best results with a prong collar.

Flat 6 Foot Leash: No flexi-leashes. Don’t tie poop bags to leash.

15-Foot Training Lead: A long training lead is essential for teaching recall and other exercises. These are widely available at most major pet stores.

Important Note on E-Collars: For safety, effectiveness, and ethical training, we exclusively use e-collars from E-Collar Technologies or Dogtra. Other brands lack the necessary quality and output range for humane and reliable training. If you already have a unit, please ensure it meets these standards before bringing it to class.
